OBSERVATIONS

HANNE DARBOVEN

OBSERVATIONS is a series dedicated to reflection and discovery, bringing together works and ideas that have shaped the brand’s point of view. Through sharing these references, the series hopes to acknowledge how design influences the human experience.

Hanne Darboven explored the idea of time through intricate and unique sequences of numbers and letters. Her work often transformed dates and daily records into visual systems and large-scale installations that reflected both personal memory and significant historical events. Drawing inspiration from conceptual and minimalist art, she used repetitive processes and handwritten calculations to explore whether time is truly objective or inherently tied to human experience.

The brand finds the use of the grid as the foundational structure interesting and it creates an underlying sense of order that holds her visual language. Numbers are spoken universally, yet Darboven has transformed them into something deeply personal, developing a system that mapped how time is felt rather than simply measured. The brand strongly resonates with the sheer scale of her works, which often fill entire spaces and immerse the viewer within her way of thinking. Despite the obvious complexity, the works feel calm and offer a sense of satisfaction in the way they organise thought and reframe how time is experienced.
